Here at Sage Creek Cabinetry we do new construction, remodeling, and additions.
We do custom kitchens, baths, offices, etc.. We specialize european and inset face frame cabinetry. We do multi step finishes using conversion varnish, polyurethane, french polished shellac, etc.. We make everything in house. We make our own doors and dovetail drawers.
Our machines cut and mill square parts, and we have the ability to customize and do radius work. We also do 3mm thick+ edge banding. No hacking sheets out on a table saw here.
We use polyurethane and conversion varnish on our products. Most custom cabinet shops use pre-catalized lacquer. It is easy and will look good for a year or two. We would rather spend more on the product and flush our spray equipment every night than have your finish fail. ( The finish is the first thing to fail around wet areas like sink cabinets).
Pictured below is a job done by one of our competitors. This job is an example of why I advise clients to be wary of trends. Notice the heavy "distressing" or "antiquing". It doesn't look old, it looks contrived. Another thing about this job is the varied height on these uppers. 4 different cabinet heights. Staggerd height is okay on a limited basis, example a wood hood to 10' high and the remaining cabinetry to 8' . As a general rule I've advised against it to this extent.
We can paint or stain your cabinets and add new doors and drawers. This is a great option if you like your layout and have expensive counter tops etc.
This is the kitchen pictured above after a major overhaul! Everything is new except the drawer boxes and cabinet carcass
We make our own dovetail drawers. They are sanded and finished after assembly. *notice This job was delivered primed. IT painted onsight by the painter (after instalation).
We
customize for form and function.
Painted (especially white) cabinets are very popular right now. This is an area where experience and skill greatly affect the finished product. As a teenager I was trained in auto body restoration by my father. What is considerd "acceptable" to me , is a very high standard. As with everything the process, products and details are very important. When considering painted cabinets. A few things to consider are; Would a slight distressing/antiquing wear better long term? What will these cabinets look like in 5-10 years? Will the finish yellow? Will the panels shrink or expand with the changing seasons ( humidity)? Can I touch up my cabinets? Was there sufficient time between the gluing up of the doors and their painting (if not there will be noticble lines at every glue joint). What is the hardness of the wood used? etc.... We use a post catalized primer and top coat. These are finishes that require a catalist. This finish is "non yellowing" and has superior strength. We anticipate wood movement and build accordingly. Painting options are; 1. We can build and install cabinetry unfinished. 2. Or we will prime the cabinets to protect the wood and expidite the finishing process, leaving the cabinets to be finished onsight by the painter (above left). 3. We paint the cabinets and install. This last option is pictured above right. Their are pros and cons to each method. We will talk throught the options and decide which option would be best for your job.
